Ad-based revenue models inevitably lead to clickbait and chaos because the goal is to keep you scrolling endlessly. At The Flip Side, you are not the product. A small monthly (or annual) fee ensures that we never have to optimize for eyeballs or clicks.
We spend hours every day scouring 30+ publications and debating one another to bring you the best arguments. As the media industry collapses around us, we’re also building a digital civic space where real people can have real conversations. Maybe someday our newsletter will consist of the top comments on our Forum! Either way our core work will remain the same: to bring you the best arguments from both sides in a 5-minute digest each morning.
If you find value in our work, we humbly ask you to join our paid member community. Over 95% of our revenue comes from memberships and goes directly to paying our small but mighty team. We need your help to keep The Flip Side alive.

A less divided future begins with all of us getting on the same page – literally.

The difference you can make as one reader

As little as $5 per month is all it takes.
If every reader contributed the cost of a coffee per month, we'd achieve a self-sustaining editorial team.

A little makes a real difference. Thank you for contributing to keep The Flip Side running.

“I'm a newsletter editor at Philly's NPR station, and I would die to get my editorial team to produce work like this."
Plus, I think Gadamer & Lonergan are mostly right about objectivity, and what The Flip Side does is reestablish trust by admitting biases in existing sources instead of pretending to be 100% unbiased news themselves.
“Love the ‘Week in Review’!”
Love the “Week in Review”! I Sometimes don’t get to read the daily emails and feel the pressure of deleting it or holding onto it for another day. With the weekly review, I can always check back on the weekend. Great work.
“LOVE these Deep Dives.”
After loving the weekly recaps, I now LOVE these deep dives. A group of friends and I try to have very nuanced conversations about tough topics as practice for real world discussions and stuff like this is extremely helpful! We had a conversation around abortion a while back actually and could have used foundational information like this.
Love this weekly brief recap by topic!!!
Hey folks, I love this weekly brief recap by topic!!!  Sometimes I don't have enough time to read the deeper dives.  These are great summaries.
The Week in Review is very helpful
The Week in Review is very helpful. As the daily email sometimes is a bit too long to read through everyday. Keep up the good work guys! Your existence has been so helpful to me, who recently immigrated to the US, to learn about the US politics and societal issues. Hearing opinions from more than one side and think critically on each matter is how we could bridge the big divide and move forward as one country. You guys keep me sane at this crazy time!
We need you now more than ever!
Love all the changes you guys are making! Keep up the great, great work - we need you now more than ever!

“Very impressed with the moderation and discussions so far”
I like all the suggestions on what makes a good post, and people seem to be using them. I even liked the prompt I got suggesting my post was too long so I edited it.
“Truly wonderful to be able to have these reasoned discussions”
I am so excited that you have implemented this Forum! I’ve been using it for the past few weeks, and it’s truly wonderful to be able to have these reasoned discussions with others who are as passionate about improving our systems as I am.
“Can’t think of a better way to put your money where your mind is”
For anyone who appreciates basic, healthy exposure to a diversity of perspectives, I can’t think of a better way to put your money where your mind is. Participate in something simply good, simply smart, simply unique by supporting The Flip Side.
“I feel informed enough that I might actually vote!”
I considered myself “anti-politics” until recently. I hated reading and discussing biased and polarized articles. The Flip Side has allowed me to consider topics from both sides in an intelligent and thoughtful way. I feel like, for the first time I can contribute to political conversation and this year, I feel informed enough that I might actually vote!
“I donate because it’s important that citizens understand issues from all angles”
I am a political commentator with a liberal point of view. But I really appreciate reading what the smart persuasive voices across the political spectrum are saying about the toughest issues we face. I donate because it’s important that citizens understand issues from all angles. The Flip Side is a terrific resource—and fun to read.
“My first and most important news source”
Each morning, The Flip Side is my first and most important news source. If all Americans understood the arguments of the opposing side, our public discourse would benefit, and we would enhance our ability to empathize with our fellow citizens. All who agree should support The Flip Side.

Our goal is to keep The Flip Side newsletter free and for our content to never solely depend on advertisers. Reader contributions incentivize the editorial team to serve readers first, and prioritize quality content over clickbait. Our long-term vision is for readers to sustain the editorial team directly. It’s a tall goal, and one we may not achieve in the current media environment, but it’s what we’ll keep fighting for. We hope you’ll join us for the ride!
